Terms of service

extrinsic lets you commit to being at a place you choose, at times you choose, with an amount of your money on the line that you choose. If you are there during the check-in window and the app can verify your location, nothing happens. If not, the amount you staked is charged to your card. That is the entire product.

Stakes are chosen from a fixed menu (€5, €10, €20, €50, €100, €500, €1000) when you create a commitment. Nothing is ever charged for showing up: no subscription for the core product, no deposits, no holds. A charge happens only when a scheduled occurrence passes without a verified check-in — you are warned of exactly this when you create the commitment.

A failed charge is retried once, roughly a day later. If the retry also fails, the debt is written off and all your commitments are paused until you provide a working card.

Within 23 hours before a scheduled occurrence, that occurrence is binding: the commitment cannot be edited and the occurrence cannot be avoided by pausing or cancelling — a pause or cancellation you request inside the lock takes effect after the locked occurrences settle. Outside the lock, editing, pausing, and cancelling are free, immediate, and unconditional.

Any collected charge can be appealed within 14 days of the charge, from the link in the invoice email or in the app. No reason is required and none is read — filing the appeal is the entire process, and it can be done once per charge. The refund is issued within 7 days after filing, in full, to the charged card. An appeal returns the money; it does not change the record of the missed occurrence.

You can delete your account at any time from the app or the site. Occurrences already inside their 23-hour lock are still honored — show up or pay — after which all personal data is erased. Anonymized charge records are retained where the law requires it.
